I’m proud of our online community for making progress in ridding ourselves of Internet Explorer. Microsoft’s heavy grasp has made it difficult for the masses of internet users to notice myriad of other, faster, more reliable browsers. Firefox has made a great deal of progress to get us where we are. But now, even Firefox is leveling off as Google’s Chrome increases rapidly every month. As of August 2009, Chrome has increased its market share by 89%, from 3.6 to 6.8.
Indeed, Google’s and Firefox’s ways of utilizing open source has proven effective at producing more quality browser technology. Firefox’s more secure and standards friendly browser made it standout against the monopolistic IE. And when Firefox made it easy and available for addon creation, Firefox really began to take off. That kind of trend has occured for Chrome as well. When Chrome was first launched, it took a while for many users to catch on as most internet savvy users already had a host of useful addons for Firefox that weren’t available on Chrome. However, as we’ve seen in the last few months, Chrome’s plugin development has skyrocketed. Furthermore, with its sleek and simple interface, and its fast surfing capabilities, many have switched to Chrome.
A really swell test by Alexis Deveria, was done to compare the effectiveness and compatibility of the top browsers. Unsurprisingly, Chrome outdid all the other browsers. I’d encourage you to take a look: Compatibility Tests for Different Browsers
Let’s just hope large corporations, universities and colleges, and government agencies, begin to make Chrome available on their public access and employee computers.

Very nice article. I find myself using Chrome more and more. It’s like my back up browser. If I get the dreaded (Not Responding) in my Firefox browser I’ll open up Chrome in the mean time. Usually I forget to switch back to Firefox and I’ll just use Chrome for the rest of the day.
